Arcade Mania - Brian Ashcraft
PROS:
Gives a great glimpse into the world of Japanese game centers, which unfortunately is also dying here.
The pictures are pretty, with great detail on the various genres of game centers, though unfortunately most of the pages are black & white.
Great interviews with ‘experts’ in each field, such as Umehara Daigo and Sakurina.
CONS:
Layout design is unique, but feels more like an unfinished draft as opposed to an 8-bit feel.
Would’ve liked to see more colored pictures. I would buy an all-picture coffee table book style, if the price is right.
VERDICT: READ, but it still doesn’t beat the feeling of going to Japan and experiencing it yourself before it finally becomes a relic.
